In accordance with Supreme Court precedent, most of the offenders who were released early will be given with day for day credit for their time in the community. According to the Seattle Times, a Supreme Court ruling mandated that good time credits should be used to reduce prison terms.
“I’ve ordered immediate action to fix 13-year-old sentencing errors discovered at state prisons”, Gov. Jay Inslee tweeted on Tuesday.
According to the Department of Corrections, seven individuals have been identified.
The offender will be rewarded for their good behavior outside of prison and depending on the time left on their sentences, some may be eligible for work release.
Inslee has retained two former federal prosecutors to conduct an internal investigation.
