Why a Clinton election win could pose conflicts of interest

She told CNN: “My work as secretary of state was not influenced by any outside forces”.

“I’m going to have ambassador ride on next drive”, wrote Abedin in an email with “Favour” as the subject to Lauren Jiloty, Clinton’s personal assistant.

Bill has promised that, if Hillary is elected, he will end his big-dog days at the foundation and stop taking cheques from foreign regimes and entities, and corporate donors. The result would be a greatly diminished foundation, since nearly half its funding comes from corporate or foreign donors. Emails from her private server reveal communications between foundation representatives and her aides about setting up meetings between America’s top diplomats and the Clinton Foundation’s top donors, including Gilbert Chagoury, a Lebanese-Nigerian billionaire. Previously, there have been claims that Clinton was receiving cash contributions to the Clinton Foundations in the millions before agreeing to help government and military operations overseas.

That is a fundamental professional and ethical question at the heart of this presidential campaign. 20 of those whom Clinton met with or phoned dumped in one million dollars or more.

The Clintons appear belatedly to have recognised their political peril. But that’s the price Bill Clinton must pay for seeing his wife become the 45th president of the United States.

One crucial fact is no longer in dispute: Foundation donors got access to the State Department. Both concerns owe their success to the personal brands of their founders, and that makes separating the personal and political even more hard. As we have said before, neither my husband, my daughter or I have taken a penny for work at the foundation. We need accountability from all our candidates.

Minassian said in a statement the emails “aren’t related to the Clinton Foundation’s work improving lives around the world”.

In an op-ed this week for USA TODAY, Clinton Foundation President Donna Shalala said scaling back the foundation’s work would be “needless and irresponsible” and “ignores how global philanthropy works”. But the Federal Bureau of Investigation hasn’t addressed whether there were conflicts of interest in Clinton’s interaction with her husband’s foundation.

Trump is a bit more cavalier than responsible journalists would be in describing what Clinton allegedly did as secretary of state.

Not to mention, Hillary hasn’t even won the election yet – should she really risk the survival of the foundation over the mere possibility that she wins in November?

That leaves it up to presidents to police themselves. The GOP is hoping to find something untoward in the Clinton schedule while also painting her as untrustworthy.

Painter said numerous accusations against the Clinton Foundation are unfair, but that Clinton ought to relinquish control of the foundation in order to prevent it from being a distraction. You don’t see Donald Trump divesting from all of his business ventures, lest he win.

Fallon said the data omitted more than 1,700 meetings Clinton had with world leaders as secretary of state.

Despite his grievances with the Clinton organizations, Davidson says he still supports Hillary Clinton for president. “But the US government is a whole lot bigger and more important”. None have produced the proverbial “smoking gun”, a clear case of quid pro quo (or an offense worthy of prosecution), but enough of them have stacked up to raise serious questions about her judgment. “Does she want this job or not?”

It was Abedin who served as a conduit between Clinton and the fat cat donors of the Clinton family foundation even as she built a'firewall for herself at the instance of President Barack Obama before becoming America's top diplomat
