So it should be no surprise that Adele is projected to break all the records with her newest album, 25. In a company statement he’s quoted as saying: “She’s using this as an opportunity to try and sell more CD’s or downloads”.
However, the Spotify site reads, “We personally view “per stream” metrics as a highly flawed indication of our value to artists for several reasons”.
“Hello”, the first single from the album, released at the end of October, has logged more than 400 million plays on YouTube and topped the US charts for the past three weeks.
“We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify”.
But streaming customers will have to content themselves with just that single, as Adele’s not allowing her album to be released on streaming services.
Streaming – which allows unlimited, on-demand music online – has grown rapidly in the past several years despite criticism from a few artists who say the payouts are too low.
It’s unclear if Adele’s album will appear on Spotify or Apple Music in the future. However, he stated that it is a “major issue for the streaming services”.
