Why Did Ted Cruz Endorse Donald Trump?

The Republican senator previously in the running for his party’s presidential nomination, Ted Cruz, back-pedaled Friday from his rejection of Donald Trump as his party’s presidential candidate and stated that he will cast his vote for the magnate next November. Cruz was booed by Trump supporters at the national convention for encouraging Republicans to “vote your conscience”.

The Donald Trump campaign chief turned to Twitter on Friday to react to news that Texas Sen. “My conscience tells me I must do whatever I can to stop that”, he pointed out.

And Cruz still harbors White House dreams, which could mean he’s also dreaming of a Trump defeat that could leave Cruz in the position of not being a traitor this year and back in line for the 2020 nomination. The Republican presidential nominee repeatedly accused Rafael Cruz, who was born and raised in Cuba, of associating with Lee Harvey Oswald around the time of John F. Kennedy’s assassination.

Cruz cited Trump’s pledges on the judiciary in his Facebook post. That’s even after Trump claimed he didn’t want Cruz’s endorsement immediately after the convention chaos.

“The day that was abrogated was the day this became personal”, he said. Well, yeah: Cruz’s comments section are filled with people accusing Cruz of being a sellout.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick was state chairman of Cruz’s presidential campaign but now has that role for Trump.

Cruz, who argued that Trump has liberal “New York values” at odds with conservatism, defeated Trump in Iowa, but was unable to follow up that momentum.

Trump replied that “I am greatly honored by the endorsement of Senator Cruz”. He was a tough and brilliant opponent.

“Ted Cruz was with Trump when he could’ve beaten him and against him when he couldn’t”, Ziegler tweeted.

Democrats noted that, in the course of the primaries, Cruz had called Trump a narcissist, bully, sniveling coward and utterly amoral.

Trump unloaded on Cruz for months, yoking him with the nickname “Lyin’ Ted”.

“Cruz will not mobilize the remnant of his base not already supporting Trump, but rather split that remnant and risk turning it against himself”, he predicted.

It wasn’t always this way.

“A lot of his large donors have encouraged this, and the race is really close”, said Gary Polland, a former chairman of the Harris County Republican Party and a Houston public television political analyst.

The surprising decision to support Trump marks a dramatic U-turn for Cruz, who had referred to the real estate mogul as a “trainwreck” and a “pathological liar” who was not fit to lead America.

Cruz went on to list six reasons why he could not stomach a Hillary Clinton presidency, but recent moves on behalf of the Trump campaign suggest a better explanation for his sudden reversal – one not entirely removed from the reasons he opposes Hillary. The Cruz stickers are coming off the vehicle.
