Why Eagles have nothing to lose by interviewing Tom Coughlin

Philadelphia also interviewed Gase, who was hired by Miami; Ben McAdoo, who was hired by the New York Giants; and two of the Eagles assistant coaches during the 2015 season under Kelly: Pat Shurmur and Duce Staley.Kelly was sacked after the 15th game of this season, when the Eagles were 6-9. But that doesn’t bother the Chiefs coach.

“It was a great opportunity for him to visit with a great organization, a phenomenal organization”, Chiefs coach Andy Reid said on Friday. “If you have an opportunity to do it, it’s kind of a nice compliment to your hard work and endurance in some cases”. His only head coaching experience is four seasons at a Louisiana high school. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Eagles had not officially announced the hiring, needing to wait for the conclusion of the Chiefs’ season. Pederson clearly knows Reid’s offense very well having played in it and coached in it so that’s important. He was 2-7 as a starter for the Eagles.

The rest, as they say, is history… or is it? Similar to Vick, Smith was playing while before he got near Pederson, yet his numbers under the new Eagles coach have been strong.

Considering the fact Kelly’s inability to maintain support in the locker room emerged as a component of his downfall, it’s not surprising Lurie opted to go for a more player-friendly presence like Pederson.

In 1999, the Philadelphia Eagles hired Andy Reid, who then drafted quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Over the summer, BJ Kissel of chiefs.com wrote a profile on Pederson, and it includes the story of when Reid first noticed the potential in his former student. He was a backup to Brett Favre in Green Bay for seven seasons over two stints.

The Kansas City Chiefs play the defending Super-Bowl Champions the New England Patriots this Saturday in the AFC Divisional round.

“In terms of an offensive mind, I don’t know how much better they get”, Eagles center Jason Kelce said, per McLane.

The hiring of Doug Pederson will mark a retreat from Chip Kelly’s football revolution. “We worked together. I worked for him there in Philadelphia so I understand that market, that climate, and that structure there”. This guy. He can do this.

Remember Philly fans calling for Reid’s job just a few years ago?

The Reid connection is the amusing part of the story. It will be interesting to see what Pederson can do with Sam Bradford or whoever else is the Eagle’s quarterback will be next season, as Pederson has a knack for communicating and developing quarterbacks. I think he’s ready for anything that anybody throws at him. “I’ve kept in touch with him and followed his progress, and it’s been fun to watch him hang in there and persevere for so long”. He’s poised to take over his mentor’s former position, one that he occupied for almost a decade and a half.
