We all know the song.

That answer has become abundantly clear as the first full length trailer for the Ghostbusters reboot has finally dropped. “That’s what I love about the first one, the idea of amusing people fighting the paranormal with science”. And honestly, I think most viewers might think it’s a sequel rather than a reboot, as the introduction in this trailer seems to suggest that this is a new team coming together 30 years after the original.

– Kristen Wiig plays Erin Gilbert, a particle physicist who works at Columbia and is trying to legitimize herself as a scientist in an environment where parapsychology departments no longer exist on college campuses and no right-minded scientist still believes in ghosts.

Melissa McCarthy plays Abby Yates, a paranormal researcher, supernatural scientist and entity trapper. As ghost sightings ramp up, they team with Kate McKinnon’s Jillian Holtzmann, a nuclear engineer who winds up creating the team’s tech. I’ve often talked about the moment I saw the original Ghostbusters walk down Madison Ave. the first time, the first day of shooting, and there was this little tingle in my back of, ‘Oh, this is special.’ There’s just something about the iconography of it. And I really honestly got the same feeling when I saw these four women… “You know the things you love the most”, teased Feig. “Kristin is this kind of vulnerable comedian, Melissa is a headstrong comedian, then you’ve got Kate who’s just the weirdo-nut, and Leslie is just a powerhouse that comes at you”, he said.

The fact that all four actors had worked with each other previously on Saturday Night Light or in movies helped with nailing the team’s chemistry.

We’re definitely going to call Ghostbusters RN.

“Ghostbusters” hits theaters everywhere on July 15.

Feig was not concerned with the criticism over making the film an all-female cast because he feels that Ghostbusters is for everybody.
