Why I delayed in naming ministerial nominees

Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki said Wednesday Buhari submitted the names of ministerial nominees for his new cabinet to the upper chamber for approval.

“The President in his statement said Nigeria has the marks in making the potentialities of a great nation”.

The President stressed that prudent housekeeping was needed now more than ever in view of the sharp decline in world market oil prices. He met former president Bill Clinton and Clinton talked to me about his impression of our president, it was favourable.

It was concluded with a 21-gun salute after which Buhari signed the anniversary register, flanked by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, the judiciary, Service Chiefs and other government officials.

“The President had promised to announce his ministerial nominees today and the Senate President has finished reading the days announcements without it, why?”, Akpabio said.

Just as the president kept to his word on the submission of his ministerial list last month, the APC national chairman said the onus was now on the senate to also hasten action on the screening and endorsement of the president’s team so that the administration would formally take off full-blast.

We have in addition – Arable land, Water, Forests, Oil and gas, Coastline and Solid minerals. But Buhari said Tuesday he will appoint a minister of state who would oversee the daily running of the petroleum sector while he keeps the oil portfolio for himself. You and I and all of us must appreciate that we all have our part to play if we want to bring change about. But what counts is not so much what accrues but how we manage our resources.

“Concentration of powers is among the chief reasons for the poor performance of Nigeria’s oil sector governance”, Liewerscheidt said in an email.

Buhari also said preliminary steps had been taken to sanitise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to curb its inefficiency and corruption. During my visit, I reaffirmed the importance of the U.S.-Nigeria strategic partnership and the need to uphold peace and democratic principles as the nation headed to the polls.

“We are concerned that we are having declining growth”, Moses Tule, the central bank’s monetary policy director, told reporters.
