Why is Hollywood rebooting ‘Jumanji’?

When Williams died in August 2014, he was memorialized for his role as the insane man from the jungle in “Jumanji.’ Sony announced the remake in 2012 with producers Matt Tolmach and Bill Teitler at the helm, and now many are left wondering who they will pick to play Williams” old role as Alan Parrish.

But it’s Jumanji take two that has film buffs in meltdown today. It joins “Rogue One”, the “Star Wars” film, and “The Greatest Showman on Earth”, a movie about P.T. Barnum starring Hugh Jackman, in that month. The original film which starred the late Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, and a young Kirsten Dunst, debuted 20 years ago to a huge fan following. He’s released when two children begin playing it, but various wild animals are coming out of the game as well.

People who grew up with Jumanji are understandably freaking out about this news. It featured some of the best special effects of the time, used to created stampedes of elephants and rhinos, swarms of insects, and poisonous plants, off of which escaped from the game of Jumanji and into our world. It’s a criminally overlooked family movie from Jon Favreau that we have an bad lot of time for.
