Why Michelle Obama’s Speech at the DNC Will Go Down in History
Not even Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders could quiet the shouts of his die-hard supporters – but Michelle did in what Obama called in a Twitter post as an “incredible speech by an incredible woman”. No, our motto is: “‘When they go low, we go high, ‘” she said to wild applause.

So, look. So, don’t let anyone ever tell you that this country isn’t great, that somehow we need to make it great again. And that’s why in this election, I’m with her… Aside from detailing the many strengths of the Democratic presidential candidate, Obama also managed to criticize Donald Trump without ever uttering his name, and spoke of Clinton’s hard road toward the presidency.
See how Twitter reacted to Michelle, and all hail the Queen of the DNC.
She did it, ironically, by forcefully disputing the very premise of Donald Trump’s rise: that the country is moving in the wrong direction. On the heels of reports that Russian Federation may have hacked Democratic Party emails, Trump said, “Russia, if you’re listening”, it would be desirable to see Moscow find and publish the thousands of emails Clinton says she deleted during her years as secretary of state.
“Hillary Clinton is an impressive woman, and I will not do what she has done”, Obama told a teenage questioner during a White House event in April.
“All our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States”, Obama said.
“I’m the first to admit that when I spoke in 2004, when I ran in 2008, my hope, my expectation was that we could lift up all that common ground and create a new way of doing business in Washington and a new political tenor, a new political tone that was more respectful and more practical in trying to solve problems”, he said. We get frustrated with political gridlock, worry about racial divisions; are shocked and saddened by the madness of Orlando or Nice.
No wonder they booed. She never takes the easy way out. Obama said in an interview with CBS in the fall of 2007, in the throes of the Democratic primary. “And with Michelle Obama, we’re going to have someone to answer that phone”. “But Hillary’s been in the room; she’s been part of those decisions”. Barack Obama, Michelle praised Clinton for the way she came around to supporting her husband. I just wish it wasn’t so bitter sweet to watch her last hurrah.
“When someone is cruel or acts like a bully, you don’t stoop to their level. She is a real pro and a woman with character”. (Applause.) And when crisis hits, we don’t turn against each other — no, we listen to each other. The story that has brought me to the stage tonight. “But each of us comes here also by way of our own improbable journey”. In the last eight years that non-existent fantasy relationship has grown, from watching her conquer the talk show circuit, to advocating for healthy kids and military families, and being arguably the only member of the Obama Administration that is resistant to Republican attacks.

For example, Mrs. Obama took on Trump in a June commencement address at the City College of NY, denouncing leaders who engage in “name-calling” and “anger and intolerance”.
