The following story contains a spoiler alert for Star Wars.
Natalie Portman refuses to show her five-year-old son her Star Wars movies for fear of traumatising him.
Setting aside the fact that all the interplanetary films are fairly violent for a five-year-old, the actress explained that the choice for her is a bit closer to home.
Portman’s son has yet to see the prequel series, but not because of that one Darth Vader line at the end of Sith, or even because of Jar Jar Binks. Then I realised: I die in the movies. Natalie Portman played Padme Amidala in films Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
The whole exchange is really amusing and shows the delicate line between being an actor and a parent.
Natalie Portman has yet to screen the films for her 5-year-old son, but it has nothing to do with Jar Jar, or Hayden Christensen’s acting.

“And boys of course are obsessed with it and know all about it before they’ve seen it”. She admitted that although her son knows all about Star Wars, he hasn’t yet seen the movies and for good reason. Kimmel also points out Portman likely won’t be showing her son Black Swan either, the psychological thriller which earned her a Best Actress Oscar in 2011, due to its mature nature. She revealed the real reason this week in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
