Why On Earth Would David Fincher Direct WORLD WAR Z 2?
What the sequel will look like remains to be seen, but with the release date still set the film will have to get underway in a hurry, meaning that if they really want Fincher for this, they’ll have to roll out a gilded red carpet for him. But after new scriptwriter Dennis Kelly was brought in to work with director J.A. Bayona, the latter signed to direct Jurassic World 2. Fincher agreeing to WWZ2 might well be a lovely act of fraternity; can the same be said of Pitt’s request?

It seems totally nuts that Fincher – of all people – would agree to direct World War Z 2, but he does have a substantial professional history with Pitt, who has starred in three of the director’s films: Seven, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Fight Club.
The report comes from sources, with no confirmation from Paramount, but notes that after an initial talk about two weeks ago, things have progressed and no other directors are now in consideration for the film. The German will not be returning for the sequel. The pair nearly re-teamed for an ambitious new adaptation of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for 20th Century Fox, but Fincher ultimately left the project over creative differences.
World War Z had its own production woes that were well-chronicled, as director Marc Forster was sidelined as the third act of the movie was re-conceived, rewritten and reshot.

Talk of a World War Z sequel has been lurching around Hollywood almost since the hit zombie film’s 2013 release.
