Excited Londoners and tourists jostle to be among the first to take the Night Tube – a new service that will see the Victoria and Central lines run all night on Fridays and Saturdays.

Around 100 British Transport police officers will be on patrol across the network on Friday and Saturday nights.

The start of 24-hour weekend service on London’s Tube is set to boost the capital city’s thriving nighttime economy.

Khan – who has spoken of wanting to help London’s night clubs to “flourish” and preventing a situation where young and creative Londoners abandon the city for Amsterdam, Berlin, to Prague – was due to be among the first riders of the new service last night.

Khan said the night service will come as a “huge boost” for the British capital.

The launch of the Night Tube this evening is a truly exciting moment for London.

‘Housebuilders will want to capitalise on this new demand’.

The nighttime service was scheduled to start in September past year but was delayed by a dispute with trade unions over staff conditions and pay.

“#LondonIsOpen”, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted.

The Night Tube has been launched in the London Underground – nearly three years since the plan was first announced.

London’s new overnight subway service has begun, with plans to host 50,000 riders each weekend.

A BTP spokeswoman said: “We received four calls for service during the Night Tube, which is in line with what we expected to receive”.

All-night services also started on parts of the Central line, where previously some passengers had to get their last train before midnight.

Trains will run every 10 minutes on the full Victoria line and on the Central line between White City and Leytonstone.

“Its introduction is a historic step in the modernization of the Underground and our continuing work to make life easier for Londoners and to support London’s economic growth”, Brown said.

But even with the Night Tube up and running, just where is Sadiq hoping these clubbers will be going? Residential areas at the end of the Night Tube lines that could be affected include Redbridge, Morden, Neasden and Barnet, according to a survey by the Association of Residential Letting Agents.
