Why the Spurs are favored to beat the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors’ pursuit of 73 wins just got a little tougher following Saturday’s 87-79 to the Spurs in San Antonio. Leonard-who would probably be the leading MVP candidate if it wasn’t for Steph Curry-had another fantastic game, totaling 18 points while pulling in 14 rebounds and adding his spectacular defense. Golden State won the first game between the two teams this season, recording a 120-90 victory over the Spurs in Oakland.

Curry missed his first seven 3-point attempts and was blocked for the first time this season from long range when Green rose to stuff the mercurial guard in the first quarter.

Kawhi Leonard scored 16 points in the loss to Golden State, and he leads the team at 21.0 points per game on the season. The two teams will also play in San Antonio once more this season on April 10, although if the Spurs are locked into the number two seed by then, it might be more of a scrimmage than anything else.

So many people in the media (not yours truly) have been telling fans that Saturday’s game between the San Antonio Spurs and Golden St Warriors is the game of the year. The Spurs didn’t necessarily discover a formula to beat the Warriors, but they did remind everyone they have two superstars who can take over a game.

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich opted to start Boris Diaw at center in place of Tim Duncan and that decision proved to be a wise call as Diaw immediately provided a boost to start the game after hitting on his first three shot attempts.

Stephen Curry was absolutely awful, by his lofty standards, Saturday night.

Like the Spurs, Golden State is also on a streak, winning in its last seven games with the most previous – a 130-112 road victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

The Spurs have not lost at home since March 2015, a winning-streak of 43 games.

The game featured some pregame lineup maneuvering after the Warriors announced that Bogut would miss the game due to a left toe/foot injury and had undergone an MRI exam. Brandon Rush scored the first five Warriors points after getting the start as part of a small lineup that featured Draymond Green at center.

“San Antonio is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games at home”.

The Golden State Warriors look to add to their historic 62-6 record.

Wizards 99 Knicks 89: WASHINGTON – John Wall had 24 points and 10 assists, and Washington rallied from an 18-point, second-quarter deficit to win their fourth straight. The Warriors are the better of the two teams when it comes to assist-to-turnover ratio, ranking second in the National Basketball Association at 1.97. Well, they played one of their best games of the season.

The Warriors were without Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut in this one, both key players for them. The Spurs’ home run will be tested along with the Warriors’ form. The San Antonio Spurs rank 10th, rebounding 44.3 times each contest.
