Midnight of July 30, Saturday night, is said to be one of the magical nights in the Harry Potter world and for the avid fans out there.

Created to be seen over two nights or at consecutive performances on matinee days, the play is written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany, based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Thorne and Tiffany.

The play picks up 19 years after Harry Potter defeats the evil wizard Lord Voldemort.

Cursed Child’s already staggering sales have made the script book for the new play a bestseller, but according to Amazon and Barnes & Noble’s reports, the book is also breaking pre-sale records.

On Monday, it was revealed by bookseller Barnes and Noble that the play had become the most popular pre-ordered book in the United States for almost a decade.

On the other hand, grown-up Potter fan Meg Gilbert would prefer to leave Harry’s post-Hogwarts life to the imagination.

All tickets include one copy of the book – the eighth installment of the series – to be handed out at the exact moment the clock strikes midnight.

Nielsen BookScan data shows the volume of books sold in New Zealand so far this year is down by 4.4 percent and the value of the books sold is down by 0.9 percent.

New Zealand publisher Hachette is coy about exact numbers for The Cursed Child but says the pre-orders have “surpassed expectations”.

“I’m really not sure how many people we’re expecting”, said Alyssa Abel, the manager of the store. Patrons should arrive by 11:30 p.m.as doors will locked for the remainder of the event.

The Fieldcrest Estate in North Canton will be having a 24-hour movie marathon event, beginning Sunday at 7 p.m. and ending with the last movie starting at 12:40 p.m. Monday.

And Harry’s lightning bolt scar is aching for the first time in nearly a quarter of a century. Copies of the book came be pre-ordered at bunchofgrapes.com.
