Why Trump said he didn’t immediately denounce ex-KKK leader’s support

After the former “grand wizard” of the white supremacist group urged followers to support Trump, the Republican candidate declined to overtly disavow Duke during an interview Sunday.

Scarborough and Brzezinski, who were criticized recently by Rolling Stone’s Matt Taibbi and other outlets for failing to hold Trump accountable for his near-constant stream of bigoted comments and extreme policies, expressed surprise Monday that Trump had failed to distance himself from white nationalist David Duke.

When CNN host Jake Tapper pressed Trump, the candidate again said he didn’t know Duke or anything about the white power movement.

“You say, “David Duke” to me, I say, ‘racist, ‘ immediately”, Rubio said in Atlanta at a rally on Monday.

Marco Rubio said on Sunday that Trump’s comments disqualified him to be president.

“I was sitting in a house in Florida with a bad earpiece”, he said.

Donald Trump has blamed a “lousy earpiece” for his refusal to condemn the Ku Klux Klan, an explanation that even for him makes absolutely no sense. “How are we going to grow the party if we nominate someone who doesn’t repudiate the Ku Klux Klan?”.

Donald Trump hassince disavowed the group on Twitter after receiving extensive backlash online for not disassociating from the KKK, including He clarified why he as far away from the organization as possible (blaming it on a bad earpiece) however, he did not (nor will he, likely ever) admit his father was ever associated with the Klan. Trump responded: “So I don’t know. If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them”.

Trump got his weekend off to a golden start when he re-tweeted a quote widely attributed to Benito Mussolini, the founder of fascism. I don’t mind disavowing anyone. Now, the GOP front-runner is deflecting criticism back at the network. He also noted that he disavowed Duke’s endorsement at a Friday press conference during which he rolled out the endorsement of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Tapper repeatedly asked Trump about his knowledge of Duke, but Trump maintained that he does not know who Duke is.

Will you unequivocally condemn David Duke and say that you don’t want his vote or that of other white supremacists in this election?

In politics, endorsements are usually a good thing – it means someone supports you and agrees with your ideas.

This is not the first time that the current Republican frontrunner has received support from Duke.

“Any candidate who can not immediately condemn a hate group like the KKK does not represent the Republican Party, and will not unite it”, Scott said in a statement released by the presidential campaign of U.S. Sen.

Even Trump’s own endorser, Alabama Sen.

Other white supremacists have been supporting Trump from the beginning of his candidacy.
