Why Twitter is going to the polls?

While the new feature appears to have been well-received so far, it has come across some problems in that the full poll is not visible in embedded tweets or in timelines and appears as a text question instead.

Twitter has launched the ability for some users to create polls during a new feature trial, Digital Spy reports. Twitter employees and those with verified accounts-Twitter users marked with those fancy blue checkmarks-are now able to embed simple two-question polls into their messages. There’s no indication of whether this capability will be rolled out to the rest of Twitter’s 316 million monthly active users.

A nice addition but I suspect it will get old very quickly if everyone begins making endless polls and the Twitter feed becomes cluttered with them. It’s been observed that all polls have a 24-hour time limit. The create poll option is not available in Tweetdeck.

The new polling feature comes as Twitter is struggling to re-ignite stagnant user growth, as investors pressure the company to appoint a permanent CEO and to find new ways to revamp its product. Earlier, the companies were allowed to poll their followers via custom card polls. There’s no official word on the roll-out of this feature (if it happens) to other Twitter users.
