Why wait for Election Day? Voting underway in Minnesota

“I at least vote for president”, said Mrs. Kirk, noting that her husband always takes part in elections, even “the small stuff”.
Voters who spoke with TODAY’S TMJ4 are split on whether to vote early or wait to cast a ballot on Election Day. The deadline to request absentee voting is October 28th at 5pm. “If it gets too close to Election Day you probably want to drop it off in person”.
An estimated 34 percent of voters will vote early, according to Michael McDonald, a political science professor at the University of Florida and fellow at the Brookings Institution. By Nov. 8, when most voters head to the polls, more than 300,000 Minnesotans could have already cast ballots. Others focus on unreliable voters in the hopes that the convenience of early voting will get their ballots in.
“I think they’re probably very few undecided voters anymore”, says Brown.

Whatever the motivation, early voting is likely to make up a significant chunk of the total vote in some key battleground states, Josh Putnam of the election blog Frontloading HQ told ABC News.
The parties, generally, concentrate on people who will vote for their party’s candidates in every race.

For those who choose the traditional mail-in absentee voting option, it’s essential those ballots arrive back at the city or county elections office on or before Election Day.
Ledesma said voters can also request an absentee ballot by mail up until the Thursday before the election.
At 8 a.m. on Friday morning, Beatrice Murray led her husband, daughter and two neighbors into an government office on the outskirts of downtown St. Paul to hurry November on its way.

If they aren’t yet registered to vote, a voter registration application will be provided with their ballot. Registrations must be received or postmarked by this date.
