Why women should always buy men’s version of products
Not only that, but it found that items aimed at women cost more than similar objects for men 42pc of the time. “Not only are women being paid less than men, on average, they are also being charged more for basic goods and have to pay for these goods with the lesser salary”.

A study conducted by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs on gender-based pricing suggests women pay significantly more money than men for the same products.
The report included a thorough analysis across several industries, such as adult clothing, children’s clothing, personal care products, toys and accessories, and home health care products for seniors. Typically women’s clothing costs 8 percent more than men’s clothing, and women’s personal products cost 13 percent more.
The study was created to reflect an average consumer lifecycle, from infant to senior products, so as to be relevant to the experiences of consumers of all ages.
In only five of the 35 product categories were products for female consumers priced lower than male consumers, and according to the samples, women’s products tend to cost more 42 percent of the time, while men’s products only 18 percent of the time.
In the market for a toy scooter, disposable razors or new jeans?
The DCA acknowledged that “over the course of a woman’s life, the financial impact of these gender-based pricing disparities is significant”. Go with the men’s version if you can. However, the pricing differential between men’s and women’s products is greater than the relatively small difference in total cost of the products, meaning that manufacturers/retailers are making more profits from products designed specifically for females.

While there are manufacturing costs to take on board, like women’s clothing often being made from more than one type of fabric whereas men’s can be more uniform, as the researchers note, prices are set by the retailer and not the manufacturer.
