Wichita mom responds on Facebook to saleswoman who body shamed her daughter

That was the case for Megan Naramore Harris and her 13-year-old daughter Lexi, who went looking for a dress for her formal at Dillard’s Towne East Mall in Wichita, Kansas.

‘The sales lady… suggested that the dress was not very flattering to her, ‘ Megan told local news station KAKE. She’s standing up for her daughter’s right to feel good in a dress. Lexi didn’t love it, but she tried it on for her mum.

Then the sweet moment took a turn, she said, when a sales woman approached and told the teen she needed to wear SPANX™with the dress. Later, when the mother received criticism for embarrassing her daughter, she posted this response, saying her daughter was not embarrassed but empowered. I told [the sales assistant] that she was just fine without SPANX’.

And that if someone ‘feels good in a dress, that is all that should matter’. Harris and her daughter left soon after that.

“She’s fit. She’s attractive”.

Megan told BuzzFeed that the experience has been surprisingly positive for her daughter because so many people have reached out to support her.

‘I hope this is shared…so that you should not say something like that to a girl ever again.

The post has been shared more than 53,000 times since, garnering more than 322,000 likes.

Harris posted the story alongside a photo of her daughter on Facebook, and it’s going viral.

Harris said Dillard’s staff had contacted her, said they were very kind and plan to use this as a talking point for their employees. “The dress is a pretty ornament and absolutely no Spanx needed”. In a follow-up post, Harris stressed that she wasn’t trying to get the saleswoman in trouble.

She signed her post: ‘Sincerely, Mother of a lovely girl’. I told her, ‘I disagree with you. Dillard’s has also reached out to Harris following the online attention. A representative for the company said sales associates are trained with the goal of giving customers a positive experience and would never intend to offend customers. It was her choice.

A MOTHER has defended her “beautiful” teenage daughter after she was criticised by a sales assistant and told to swear Spanx.

Second, please know I do not want this lady fired!

In the age of the ‘body handsome, ‘ everyone is learning (some are learning the hard way) what it is and isn’t appropriate to tell people about their appearances.
