Melodie Gliniewicz, 51, was indicted on felony charges that include money laundering as well as disbursing charitable funds without authority and for personal benefit, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Melodie has suffered greatly over the past few months and continues to move her family forward after the emotionally traumatizing events of September 1, 2015.

Text messages Gliniewicz sent in the days before his death suggested he was concerned that an audit by village officials would expose his embezzlement from the Explorers post, and that he had been plotting ways to head off an investigation.

Gliniewicz is the wife of Fox Lake Police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz, who committed suicide a year ago. She was indicted on three counts of disbursing charitable funds without authority and for personal benefit, one count of disbursing charitable funds without authority and for personal benefit and two counts of money laundering.

The law firm of Keller & Buckley describes Melodie Gliniewicz as “devastated” by a Lake County Grand Jury indictment handed down Wednesday and says that she was a victim of her husband’s “secret actions”.

“It’s an unfortunate thing for the village and we just want to put it past us you know”, said Fox Lake Resident Leo Minne, who did not think Melodie Gliniewicz should go to jail if convicted. Fox News learned a female colleague sued the police department, claiming Joe Gliniewicz forced her into oral sex numerous times.

“The investigation revealed money was withdrawn from the police explorer account over the course of several years”.

Gliniewicz turned herself in to authorities Wednesday afternoon.

Melodie Gliniewicz also held a fiduciary role as an adult adviser to the explorer post, officials said.

Gliniewicz: “Used the exploder acct for the flight, $624.70”.
