Roberts said the city has partnered with additional resources to secure our city Thursday and that it is open for business as usual. In spite of the verbal commands Mr. Scott exited his vehicle armed with a handgun as the officers continued to yell at him to drop it.
Putney said that the footage did not provide “definitive” evidence Scott pointed a gun at police oficers, but eyewitness statements supported the police account. The plainclothes officer who shot Scott, Brently Vinson, was not wearing a camera. He has been placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues, according to Police Chief Kerr Putney.
However, major Charlotte employers including Bank of America Corporation and Wells Fargo & Company told employees not to go to uptown offices but work from home.
