Sweden has made a formal request to interview Assange in Ecuador’s London Embassy in June, four years after the initial offer from Ecuadorian authorities.
In filing the case in Sweden’s Court of Appeal of Svea, representatives for Assange said, due to the “unlawful” deprivation of his liberty, officials in Stockholm, “must release and compensate him immediately for the harm caused”.
Assange has said he fears that if he were sent to Sweden to face trial, he could be extradited to the United States to be tried over WikiLeaks’ publication of hundreds of thousands of classified documents and face a long prison sentence or the death penalty. Assange was speaking to an interviewer on the Dutch television program, “Nieuwsuur” when he mentioned “a 27-year old who works for the DNC and was shot in the back”.
“I’m suggesting that our sources takes risks and they become concerned to see things occurring like that”, Assange replies.
Assange is wanted for questioning by Swedish police over alleged sexual offenses stemming from his visit to the country in 2010.
Last week WikiLeaks released 20,000 emails showing election “rigging” in the United States democratic primary process, leading to a number of resignations of senior executives. The revelations in the emails led to resignations of the chair of the DNC, as well as top staff members.
WikiLeaks’ desire to broach Rich’s case and raise questions about his fate follow charges by Democrats, and issues raised in press reports, about Assange’s ties to the Kremlin.
“The information we have received from Ecuador is that they are favorable to an interrogation and they will get back to us about the exact details”, Rosander said.
Assange and WikiLeaks would be far too abnormally concerned about Rich’s murder if the DNC staffer had nothing to do with the hack. We think it is a concerning situation.
“At this time, there is no indication that Seth Rich’s death is connected to his employment at the DNC”, read the statement.
“The family welcomes any and all information that could lead to the identification of the individuals responsible, and certainly welcomes contributions that could lead to new avenues of investigation”, Bauman said in the statement.
Following Rich’s death last month, Metropolitan Police Department police officials suggested that the shooting was likely the result of an attempted robbery.

“We have a history of obtaining information that has significantly contributed to many legal proceedings, including successful prosecutions”, the statement said.
