WikiLeaks Releases Controversial Emails Connected to US Democratic National Party

Thousands of demonstrators are taking to Philadelphia’s sweltering streets Sunday, chanting and beating drums in the first major protests ahead of the Democratic National Convention, as the city wilts during a heat wave.

The leaked emails included one where Wasserman Schultz referred to a top Sanders campaign aide as a “damn liar” and another where a party official suggested the Vermont senator’s religious beliefs should be questioned.

The emails, allegedly hacked by Russians, gave new fuel to Sanders loyalists who for months have considered Wasserman Schultz prejudiced.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz was at the center of much of this, but she wasn’t the only one.

The Democratic National Committee’s rules panel has decided that Rep. Marcia Fudge of OH will preside over convention sessions beginning Monday.

President Obama released a statement Sunday commenting positively on Wasserman Schultz’s tenure as head of the DNC, but sidestepping any mention of the controversy surrounding her resignation. They shouted down pro-Clinton speakers and sent threatening messages to state party Chairwoman Roberta Lange after posting her phone number and address on social media.

Sanders was critical of the Florida congresswoman throughout the primary, accusing the party of rigging the process in favor of Clinton. Bernie Sanders supporters still want a Sanders nomination, and many are even more firmly in the #NeverHillary camp now, despite what happens with Wasserman Schultz. “Her fundraising and organizing skills were matched only by her passion, her commitment and her warmth”. The fallout from this has includes DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Shultz now stepping aside from the convention.

Trump appeared to relish in the Democratic chaos Sunday, writing, “The Dems Convention is cracking up”. Ted Cruz, refused to endorse the billionaire businessman. She talked with both President Barack Obama and Clinton before making her announcement, a Democratic source said. According to her online biography, she graduated from the University of Florida.

Pressure built on Sunday for the DNC Chair to step down from her position, in the wake of the embarrassing revelations exposed in the Wikileaks document dump. Brazile, a CNN contributor, is already on the speaking program for the convention. Democrats are hoping that city’s historical role in the founding of American democracy will serve as a powerful backdrop for the themes they’ll highlight. But she said Democrats are focused on getting Clinton and Kaine elected.

Some Democrats remain big fans of the indefatigable Wasserman Schultz, who has traveled the country championing Democrats.

US Democrats converge on the City of Brotherly Love to elevate Hillary Clinton this coming week as the party’s nominee who will battle Republican Donald Trump in 2016’s presidential election. His campaign chief, Paul Manafort, went further and called on Clinton to drop out of the race altogether.

As the Los Angeles Times reports, Sanders is calling for Wasserman-Schultz to resign. But it seemed to do little to pacify them. “What’s in those emails show that it was a clearly rigged system, that Bernie Sanders – Sanders never had a chance”. He strongly denied that the revelations had changed his support for Clinton and said that the real threat was Trump.
