The Minneapolis Star Tribune’s story set the scene on Saturday against the Boston Bruins as the Wild lost their eighth straight contest.
They’ve been the recipients of some bad luck, to be sure, but things haven’t shifted fast enough. He coached 12 current members of the Wild between his run the past two seasons in Iowa and his first stint with the organization as coach of Minnesota’s then-AHL affiliate, the Houston Aeros, from 2011-13.
Former Wild player Zenon Konopka was critical of Yeo with a tweet saying his old coach should be fired. The Wild will play their first game under his direction on Monday night when they take on the Vancouver Canucks. “So I made the decision after the game to let Mike go”.
Fletcher has built on that offseason’s success by supplementing Minnesota’s mix with veterans like Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville.
After that, he was a head coach with CSKA Moscow in Russia’s KHL, and finally he ended up as the head coach of the Iowa Wild in 2014 after that team fired Kurt Kleinendorst.
Yeo was in his fifth season behind the bench with the Wild. There was no immediate word from the Wild about who would take over and whether there would be further dismissals from the staff, which includes assistants Rick Wilson, Darryl Sydor, Darby Hendrickson and Andrew Brunette. They went the entire month of November without a win. In 2003-04, he had a 10-12-4-1 record with the Florida Panthers and was 5-7-0 for the final 12 games of the 2005-06 season with the Los Angeles Kings. “[I’m] looking forward to seeing that [Monday] night”. Zucker, a natural goal-scorer and the fastest player on the team was rarely used in 3-on-3 overtime, yet Yeo found time to deploy Jarret Stoll.
