Wildfire in Sierra Nevada foothills burns 2 square miles

Businesses close to the wildfire areas were not affected, a local commerce official said. The highway is also closed at County Road 89.

Cal Fire says firefighters are having difficulty gaining access to the fire, which was burning through brush-covered rugged terrain. Residents had questions for fire officials at a town hall meeting. According to Cal Fire, the blaze has scorched 6,900 acres and is 15 percent contained.

Evacuation orders have been lifted for National Park Service employee housing and administrative areas.

Containment is reported at 5 percent.

Although many have warned about the threat of quickly spreading fires such as Wragg, Lake County has been lucky so far.

Shortly after the blaze broke out, three hikers were rescued from an area south of the lake, CalFire said.

A fast-moving wildfire that began Saturday afternoon has burned 4,000 acres in Nevada County, California, prompting evacuations. Evacuations were also called for the Cascade Shores community. The fire is burning between the Markley Cove Resort and Monticello Dam, according to the CHP.

“We do try to give sufficient rest but you know, the more the days you’re out and the more incidents we’re on, definitely fatigue does set in and we really have to wary of that”, said Cal Fire spokesperson Kevin Colburn.

“That could be the Rivieras, that could be Hidden Valley Lake, that could be Cobb”, Lake County Fire Protection District Chief Willie Sapeta said, rattling off a list of nearby communities.
