That has kicked off a wave of colleges revoking honorary degrees from the comedian.

It gave Cosby the degree in recognition of his achievements in education and entertainment and for his activism for social justice and civil rights.

Yale University took no action regarding Cosby’s honors despite an online petition signed by about 200 members of the Yale community asking the university’s president to rescind the honors Cosby received in 2003.

Snow said that numerous women who participated sensed an opportunity to educate others about the need to talk forthrightly about sexual assault. A proposal to rescind Cosby’s honorary degree at John Jay is now under consideration, according to The New York Times.

In July, President Obama said there was no way to revoke Cosby’s Presidential Medal of Freedom because of sexual misconduct allegations.

A judge has denied Bill Cosby’s request to dismiss a sexual assault lawsuit filed against him, paving the way for the embattled comedian to be deposed on Friday.

A spokesman for Cosby, David Brokaw, declined to discuss the issue of his honorary degrees.
