Will Be the Year of Canada-China Tourism

While meeting with visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Xi said that China was willing to improve communication and coordination with Canada, protect an open and inclusive multilateral trade system with the country and deepen cooperation in areas such as climate change, peacekeeping and marine protection.

International Trade Minister Chrystia Freeland, who is part of the delegation travelling with Trudeau, had earlier said the issue is of “absolute importance” to the Canada-Chinese trade relationship.

The two sides will strategize on how to use e-commerce to stimulate trade, with opportunities for Canadian small and medium-sized exporters.

“Our two countries confirmed the agreement following the first leg of Prime Minister Trudeau’s official visit to China”.

Canada said it plans to apply to join a controversial new global infrastructure bank led by China in hopes of providing a boost to economic growth both at home and around the world. “Until now, the China-Canada relationship has somewhat lacked in stability and regularity”.

China wants Canada to cut the level of foreign contaminants, known as dockage, considered acceptable in its canola exports, by more than half.

BEIJING-On Thursday, the government announced that Canadian and Chinese companies signed 56 new commercial contracts and agreements worth $1.2 billion.

Trudeau said he brought his children with him to China because he wanted to pass along the “friendship and the openness towards China” that he learned from his father on not only to his children but also future Canadians.

The portion of the wall they visited had been temporarily closed to the public – providing them with a peaceful section to stroll, away from the usual hordes of visitors. This has increased the Chinese tourist visiting Canada by nearly 200 percent this year.

Ambassador Guy Saint-Jacques highlighted those sticking points Wednesday after Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said Canada and China would soon launch a feasibility study on an eventual free-trade deal. He noted that now only Americans and Brits visit Canada more than the Chinese.
