Terming it as a “serious issue” he said, “When Congress party would form the Government in the State.

Even Punjab jails have become a den of drug lords”, said the MP.

On the reported merger of SAD Longowal led by Barnalas, he said the “arrogant and egoistic captain of Punjab Congress” was planning to score victory with help of “a failed Manpreet Badal, the estranged nephew of the chief minister, and the rejected Barnalas who have no relevance in state politics”.

Reacting to the revelations made by a leading financial daily, the former chief minister said that he had always been maintaining that the government headed by the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has been playing fraud with everybody and now it has been revealed that they have even cheated the banks.

The Congress leader slammed the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party government, saying it does not want to focus on the problem of drug abuse in the state and is not working effectively to root out the menace.

“I have known Barnala sahib for a long time and have been a Minister in his Ministry and he has contributed his entire life for Punjab and he and his family have been all over Punjab”, he said. He also spoke about the drug problem in Punjab and said that it would be taken care of after his party came to power in the state as he visited Zirakpur town today. “When our party forms the government (next year), the drug problem will be solved”, he said, adding that the Congress wants to give a “new kind” of government which would be sensitive to the needs of the people. “We will eradicate it and you will see the difference in months”.

He claimed that the “bubble of artificial charisma” of Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh has burst much before the Punjab elections, slated for next year.

He said youth will be given adequate representation in the ticket distribution exercise.
