Will Jon Hamm finally take home an Emmy?

Sunday looks set to be one of the most unpredictable Emmy Awards ever.

In a year when more than 400 series will air on various television-like platforms, why should anyone still care about Sunday night’s Emmy Awards?

The show also only won once for best comedy, losing to “Frasier” five times. One went to “Jane the Virgin” and the other to “The Flash”.

Davis and Henson are widely viewed as the front-runners in this category, and when was the last time two African-American women went into Emmy night as the co-favorites for lead actress honors? The network, widely viewed as offering some of the highest quality content on TV, racked up 126 Emmy nominations, 24 for its flagship series “Game of Thrones” alone. All deserve recognition, but here’s the thing – Elisabeth Moss has been nominated multiple times for her work as Peggy Olson, and never won. Jeff Daniels, victor in 2013, is shooting for his second win for his role in the third and final season of HBO’s “The Newsroom“.

Who should win – Sentiment notwithstanding – and it’s hard to avoid in the case of my addiction to both Letterman and Stewart – the reality is that Last Week Tonight With John Oliver is one crackerjack piece of political satire and merits the prize most. This year’s contenders include a mix of old favorites like Modern Family and Orange Is The New Black, along with newer sensations like Transparent and Better Call Saul. “Empire” stars Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard will be presenters, along with Anthony Anderson, James Corden, Jamie Lee Curtis, Will Forte, Lady Gaga, Ricky Gervais, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jimmy Kimmel, LL Cool J, Rob Lowe, Amy Poehler, Gina Rodriguez, Tracee Ellis Ross, Liev Schreiber and Amy Schumer. I think it was an unexpected standout hit for Netflix. Will win: Jeffrey Tambor. But I sense that the groundbreaking “Transparent“, which won the Golden Globe earlier this year, has momentum on its side. Over the last several years many believed that HBO would run the table in that category so it’s very surprising that after four seasons of Emmy Awards, the show has yet to lock up the number one award handed out.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep” – The former “Seinfeld” star’s bumbling, egotistical Selina Meyer captures the worst of Washington politics, and has won three times. But with bold, fresh comedies continuing to be produced every year, do we really need to keep giving Modern Family trophies? Were not there yet, but nonjudgment day is coming!” Whitford said in accepting his award.

Network dramas generally have to shoot twice as many episodes – up to 22 a season – on shorter production schedules. He beat out Hamm in 2011 and may just do it again for his role in Bloodline. When finished, print out your finished ballot or check back on Emmy night to see how you did. “It’s the kind of drama that they like and I think that it warrants the accolade”. How’s the season going on “Brooklyn Nine Nine?” It will have to beat “Louie“, “Parks and Recreation“, “Silicon Valley“, “Transparent”, “Veep” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt“. That is something that could tip the scales of voting in the direction of GoT.

Strongest competition: Louis-Dreyfus, but any of these women could win.

Will win: My gut is telling me The incredible Race, purely because it wins this award a lot. “So this will be really exciting to have her. She is my best friend in the entire world”.

Will win: Matthew Weiner, “Person to Person”, “Mad Men”.
