Even though Bieber lost out on the No 1 spot in the singles chart, he still has three songs in the top five: Love Yourself in the second spot, Sorry at the third and What Do You Mean at the fifth.
The choir said in a statement, “It’s a brilliant celebration for the NHS across the country, so well done and thank you everyone”. Indeed, the choir owe the Canadian a debt of gratitude for imploring the public to help them knock him off the number one slot… It’s Christmas. NHS Choir good luck’.
Speaking to OfficialCharts.com the choir said earlier: “We are absolutely overwhelmed and couldn’t be any happier!”
In Bieber is largely responsible for the choir’s success.
The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir topped the charts with “A Bridge Over You“, a mashup of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and Coldplay’s “Fix You“.
The Official Charts Company said it was the closest Christmas number one race since Rage Against the Machine beat X Factor victor Joe McElderry in 2009.
“I was listening to the song and it dawned on me that a great way of translating how I was feeling and how proud I was to work for the NHS would be getting (the song) to No. 1” on the national music chart, she added.
So for one week it’s OK not to be number one.
‘There will be thousands of NHS staff across the country working through Christmas Day, while the rest of the nation is putting its feet up – this success is for them.
The singer has scored the biggest selling album of Christmas week for 2015.
Their main intention was to raise as much money as possible for health charities including Carers UK and Mind – and to highlight their healthcare colleagues’ sterling work.
