Christian Ponder is joining 2011 draft-class quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick, the latter of whom hasn’t thrown in 49ers practice for almost a week because of shoulder tightness.

We’re not here to talk about Gabbert, but we are going to kick off our three takeaways from the preseason opener at the quarterback position.
“I’m just really disappointed for him because I thought he played well yesterday and was really starting to come on”, Kelly said.
“From what we understand, it’s not a long-term thing”. Kind of get us on track. But there’s no way Kelly is happy with the way Gabbert threw the ball so the quarterback competition is still on. Kelly wouldn’t say whether or not Kaepernick would run with the first-team offense if healthy.

Gabbert finished the game 4 for 10 for 63 yards and a touchdown.

On his final snap before departing, Lewis scrambled from pressure for a 1-yard gain. Their 236 rushing yards were the second-most in the league.
San Francisco spent last season trying not to lose; they need to spend this season going all-in to try to win.

In seven games overall, six starts, Lewis completed 60.8% of his passes, for 1,296 yards to go along with five passing touchdowns (one rushing) to four interceptions. The tight end made a nifty cut back upfield to break a tackle and find the end zone for the 43-yard score to tie the game.
