Will Montgomery Injury: Updates on Bears C’s Ankle and Return
The Bears placed center Will Montgomery on season-ending Injured Reserve on Tuesday.

Montgomery has appeared in 110 games and made 75 starts – 58 at center – for Carolina (2006), the New York Jets (2007-08), Washington (2008-13), Denver (2014) and Chicago (2015). In his first season with Chicago, Montgomery went down on the opening drive and needed a cart to get back to the locker room. Moving Slausen to center also creates a hole at left guard which would be filled by Patrick Omameh who started 16 games for the Bucs last season and held his own Sunday with a -0.1 grade from Pro Football Focus. Grasu will make a few mistakes, but the sooner he gets comfortable with the speed and power of the National Football League game, the sooner the Bears will have another young piece in place.
The 32-year-old center joined the Bears on a one-year deal this past offseason and replaced long-time center Roberto Garza. The Chicago Bears now have to worry about who’s available to block for him.
“Grasu has been here”, coach John Fox said Monday. All your backups… have to be ready to play in a moment’s notice, particularly in the O-line because it is such a group dynamic. The Bears already were without starting left tackle Jermon Bushrod because of a concussion and shoulder injury. He’s a guy that’s familiar with our offense. We run a few no-huddle, so there’s a lot of checks at the line.

The Bears achieved their first win of the season on Sunday with a 22-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders after quarterback Jay Cutler returned as the starter. Fox said X-rays on the leg were negative…. Kicker Robbie Gould needs five points to become the franchse’s all-time scoring leader.
