Will Norman get fined? Clearing up 5 Odell Beckham questions
Beckham’s suspension wasn’t the last thing we’ve heard about this. It’s great for us to be in a game like this – it’s kind of like our first dose of mini-games of what playoff football is going to be about. “You don’t want to be in a situation where that costs you the game”.

Beckham’s paying a big price now, and with a history of three previous league-imposed fines, it’s about time.
Regardless of how the coach perceives Beckham’s character, however, the New York Giants have to find a way to win without their star player this week on the road.
“I will not defend his actions because they were wrong”, Coughlin said in a conference call with reporters. He is an emotional young man, he wears his emotions on his sleeve. The consistency of what you’re doing, going after him every play? “And this is a very unique and talented young man, and we are continuing to work with him about circumstances such as developed (Sunday)”.
But as much as Beckham deserves to be punished, he doesn’t deserve to be demonized.
The game on Sunday surprised me because it doesn’t happen as often as it does.
“That it is team first, team last, team always, and nothing stands above that”.
Panthers cornerback Josh Norman was involved in several altercations during the game with Beckham, who was suspended for one game by the league on Monday.
“This “blindside block” was particularly flagrant because Beckham, with a 10-yard running start, had an unobstructed path to his opponent, the position of the opponent was not impacted by any other player, and the contact with the head/neck was avoidable”, the league said in its written announcement of Beckham’s suspension.
Coughlin needed to be better than the woefully overmatched refs on Sunday, and he needed to be better than the response he gave Monday about keeping Beckham on the field.
Video from National Football League films shows Norman holding the bat in the pre-game huddle, but players insist they often use it as a “motivating prop”. The Panthers denied to CBS Sports, which reported the accusations, that Beckham was threatened or subjected to slurs. Though the Giants said Beckham was a largely composed presence on the sideline in between possessions, Coughlin still has to answer for why he didn’t bench the receiver for at least one series, and for why he didn’t know Beckham was responsible for three personal fouls.
Panthers spokesman Steven Drummond said the team’s defensive backs regularly bring a baseball bat on the field during pre-game warmups to get motivated for opponents because it “represents them bringing the wood and making home run plays on defense”.
Manning was similarly backed into Beckham’s corner. Insinuating to Odell Beckham ‘I’m gonna end your career, it’s gonna be over, I’m gonna blow you out, I’m gonna blow your knees out’. “I think the guy does a lot of great things”. He might raise some of the actions supposedly taken by the Panthers as, in his view, mitigating factors.
Tensions between Beckham and Norman grew, however, before the game even had its first snap. The Giants trailed the unbeaten Panthers 35-7 in the third quarter, but clawed their way back and tied the game 35-35 when, you guessed it, Beckham caught a touchdown over Norman with 1:46 remaining in the fourth quarter. Pugh’s grade was tops for the Giants offense.
