While addressing a high-level meeting in the big city to review law and order situation, the PM said there was consensus that a decisive operation was required and it has gained the great success during the last 27 months. The deadline provided for the rangers to exercise exclusive policing powers in Karachi ended on December 5, 2015 as Sindh government failed to provide the extension.

Talking to SAMAA TV’s current affairs program “Awaz”, he played down the delay in extension to the Rangers powers and said the extension was delayed by one or two days in past as well.

PPP spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar earlier told Dawn that no decision would be taken on Rangers’ continued deployment in the province unless it was approved by the Sindh government.

Commenting on the reshuffling in the Sindh Cabinet, Nisar Khuhro said the change is very much in the control of the provincial government and the party and this sort of change should keep happening in future as well. The paramilitary Rangers has been leading a surgical operation against terrorists, land mafia and criminals in the port city since September 2013.
