Will Smith Making ‘Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ Reboot

He is reportedly working exclusively behind the scenes as a producer along with his Overbrook Entertainment production partners – Jada Pinkett Smith, Caleeb Pinkett and James Lassiter. It starred Will Smith as a boy from west Philadelphia, born and raised, who was sent to live with his auntie and uncle in his new kingdom of Bel-Air. Having caught some of those syndicated episodes recently, I’m happy to say it holds up surprisingly well compared to other shows of the era (looking at you, Full House). The reboot aims to put a new spin on the classic storyline.

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” ran for 6 seasons on NBC and is the latest 90’s sitcom to try to recapture the magic of that era.

That’s according to TVLine, which reports that a reboot of the beloved sitcom is now “in the very early stages of development”. They’ve also confirmed that “a pitch is being finalized now and Overbrook will begin shopping it around in the coming weeks”. The hit ’90s sitcom that made a star out of Will Smith is being developed by Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, according to TV Line on Thursday. The series doesn’t yet have an official logline, obscuring whether or not it would pick up some of the original characters decades later, or reboot altogether. Interestingly enough, the project is said to be in connection with the series’ original star Will Smith – who is said to be a major supporter of the project.

There’ve been rumors of a “Fresh Prince” reunion for years, whether as a one-off special, or even as a movie.

But we are conflicted as to the reboot will be for better or worse.
