The Concussion film has drawn some controversy as it shows the National Football League in a bad light as they are portrayed as trying to discredit the doctor’s results.
The new film starring Will Smith blows the lid off the NFL’s dirty secret – aging former players are being ravaged by dementia and other disorders because of repeated brain injuries!
Omalu’s life in the focus of the movie “Concussion”.
Much of Concussion looks at the NFL’s attempt to stonewall and discredit Omalu and his colleagues, including doctors played by Albert Brooks and Alec Baldwin.
In the movie, Smith plays the role of a Nigerian forensic neuro-pathologist and American immigrant, Dr Bennet Omalu.
“People are standing up and taking notice that concussions matter”, Brad Donaldson, Associate Director of Operations with the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance, said.
The movie stars Will Smith as Dr. Bennett Omalu whose research into chronic traumatic encephalopathy was initially rebuffed by the football league, said The New York Times.
One of the biggest questions parents face today is do you let your child play sports where concussions are prevalent?
“A movie like this can just continue to raise awareness about how important it is to protect young people and also us in general from unnecessary shots to the head”, says Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers.

“I think the film does a nice job of educating the public that this is a very complicated subject, that though there is damage that occurs to the brain with repetitive concussion, not everyone who gets a concussion is going to have this problem”, he said. While the movie was well down, I don’t see it as a game changer that will significantly cripple the NFL.
