Will ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ be the biggest movie of 2015?
Disney and Lucasfilm’s much anticipated sequel “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has been breaking daily box office records since it premiered on December 18, but the return of Princess Leia and Han Solo hasn’t rescued movie theater stocks from the dark side.

The sci-fi epic, directed by J.J. Abrams, scored the biggest domestic opening of all time after raking in $238 million over the weekend, easily eclipsing the $209 million debut previously set by Jurassic World in June.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” showed no signs of slowing down, heading into what is expected to be a hugely profitable Christmas holiday. At this pace The Force Awakens will ultimately top $2 billion worldwide, maybe even pass Titanic ($2.186 billion) to become the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time.
Abrams’ life-long friend Greg Grunberg – who also has a minor role in The Force Awakens as X-wing fighter Snap Wexley – said that the director recently read the script for Episode VIII and said something highly unusual, for him: that he “wished” he had written it.
As you can see from the photos in the gallery below, which are taken from the book, concept artist Iain McCaig says that he initially proposed having the Force Ghost of Anakin appear in Episode VII. We are joined by a handful of nerds that love the Star Wars universe to discuss the blockbuster film. Ever dream of playing as Darth Maul, Mace Windu, Kylo Ren, Rey, and as the armies of the Republic, Confederacy of Independent Systems (Separatists), Resistance, and First Order in Star Wars Battlefront? David O. Russell’s new drama starring Jennifer Lawrence, “Joy”, debuted in third place with $17.5 million. It did not take the record for the biggest Wednesday but it is getting close to another record.
The Good Dinosaur made $9.2 million in 3rd.
