Bryce Harper continued his torrid MVP-caliber season with his power on full display.

Papelbon, 34, said he wouldn’t accept a trade unless he would remain a closer, and agreed to waive his no-trade clause after getting the assurances he needed from Washington. “I don’t think this is usually what happens, these kind of moments and stuff”.

Based on Thursday’s performance, he could be a valuable asset for any team aiming for October, while the Marlins set their sights on next year. “It’s not anything that I’m thinking about when I’m on the mound, that’s for sure”. The Marlins will receive three minor-leaguers from the Dodgers: RHPs Jeff Brigham, Victor Araujo and Kevin Guzman…. “As we currently sit right now, we’re 18 games under”.

But, with the future looking bright for the Nationals, can they finally play like the team we thought they would be heading into Spring Training?

The Marlins offense was led Martin Prado who went 3-3 with a walk. Morse – a South Florida native – batted. 200 in early May.

“He’s got such a forceful, violent swing”, Marlins manager Dan Jennings said of Harper. “Yeah, it’s been a insane few days”.

It was flawless, just like his season so far.

Papelbon pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday to pick up his first save with the Nationals since being traded to Washington from Philadelphia.

“All I’m going to say is that I’m aware of the move and I’ve talked to Mike about it and talked to my agent and we’ve had some ongoing discussions and until those have progressed I’m going to leave it at that and no comment for now”, Storen said. I’m glad it’s out of the way.

Koehler, who allowed five runs in six innings – the most damage done to him in any home start this season – said Harper simply “did what he has been doing all year”.

Former closer Drew Storen pitched a flawless eighth, striking out two in his new setup role.

According to MASN’s Chris Johnson, Papelbon said after the game that he asked Storen in the shower to teach him his slider grip. “He was really, really good”. It was his third multi-home run game of the season, the first since hitting two against Atlanta on May 8.

Miami added an insurance run in the seventh, Yelich’s second hit of the game scoring Cole Gillespie. “Plain and simple”.

Tanaka (7-4) had won his previous three starts, a stretch when he was the first Yankees pitcher since April 2013 to go at least seven innings in three consecutive victories. Mathis has been in 16 games this season, 10 of them being day games. Haren is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA in five starts in July.

Marlins: RHP David Phelps (4-7, 3.86) starts Friday in the opener of a series against San Diego at Marlins Park. Second baseman Dee Gordon, in his first game since returning from the disabled list after recovering from a dislocated left thumb, hit a leadoff triple to right-center, with his drive one-hopping the wall. RHP Ian Kennedy (6-9, 4.58) is the scheduled starter for the Padres.
