William and Kate retrace Diana’s steps in visit to Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is the final stop for Will and Kate and is a particularly evocative occasion because of Will’s late mother Princess Diana’s solo trip in 1992. According to some, the portrait, which features her sitting alone in front of this massive “monument to love”, is thought to be symbolic of her troubled marriage to Prince Charles.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Taj Mahal on Saturday as their tour of India and Bhutan comes to an end.
“They made the decision because it is what all visitors to the Taj Mahal do – they sit on the bench with the ideal symmetry of the building behind them”.
Do you think it was touching for Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton to recreate this photo in front of the Taj Mahal? Later, William told reporters that they were here to create their own memories. They entered the premises at 3.40 pm and left at 4.25 for the Amar Vilas hotel where they would have dinner before flying off for Delhi at 10 pm.
The couple didn’t intentionally sit on the bench because of its associations with Diana.
Prince William wore a blazer, shirt and chinos, while Kate looked cool in a white knee length dress with blue prints by designer Naeem Khan as the mercury soared to 41-degree Celsius.
Speaking about the success of their tour, Mr Wangchuk said: ‘I think our happiness index has shot up, this visit has been a blessing for Bhutan. They couldn’t wait to get down here and experience it for themselves. The couple also recently visited Bhutan on this trip. As they would be celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary on April 29, the Duchess reportedly told the tour guide that the Taj Mahal visit is the flawless thing to do before their anniversary. “She was quite happy about it”, said Rizwan, who has been working at the monument for the last 15 years. “When pressed to explain herself, the princess replied: “Work it out for yourself”. We can feel Kate’s emotion just by the way her head is slightly tilted and she is leaning into Will, who is tilted toward her as well.
