Prince William and Kate visited the Taj Mahal Saturday, completing one of the most anticipated stops of their week-long trip to India and Bhutan on behalf of Her Majesty’s Government.

“For the Duke of Cambridge, his mother’s visit to the Taj Mahal is not a particularly strong memory at all”, a source told WHO.
The couple’s spokesman said the young royals’ decision to sit on the marble seat was last minute – and not because of its associations with Diana, but because it is “where everyone sits to admire the Taj’s beauty”.
The princess was reportedly very upset that Charles refused to join her at the famous monument.
The photo of Princess Diana is iconic because she looked sad and alone while dealing with a crumbling marriage.
In famous snaps, Princess Diana was pictured in front of the mausoleum in 1992 sitting by herself. During their first evening, Prince William give a speech, saying India was the first place his wife told him she wished to visit after they had married. However, another representative walked back the connection saying, they took the took the photo at the spot because that’s “what all visitors to the Taj Mahal do”.
An aide said yesterday: ‘The Taj, one of the wonders of the world and completed in 1648, will be a fitting location for The Duke and Duchess to say thank you for the generosity and warmth that has been extended to them on the tour.
Much has been made of Kate’s wardrobe choices during her visit to India, and during the Taj Mahal visit she wore a summery white and blue dress that ended just above the knees.
The Kensington Palace also announced that William, along with Prince Harry and the President of the BAFTA, will visit the “Star Wars” film set at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire Tuesday.
Town and Country believes Prince William understands why the bench named for Princess Diana and the Taj Mahal as a monument are important to people in relation to his family history, and wanted to make a quiet statement by recreating the photo with his wife, Princess Kate Middleton.
A spokesperson for the couple said, “They got a brief glimpse of the Taj from their hotel earlier and were visibly excited”.

The couple started their tour in India, where they spent time meeting with local villagers, going on a safari, attending a gala, visiting national landmarks, and raising awareness around the plight of endangered animals.
