Williams has strong start, Pirates snap 6-game skid

Arizona hit 10 strikeouts exactly in its home win over the Tigers on Wednesday, with Zack Godley striking out six in seven innings of work and Randall Delgado striking out two over his two innings. Geritt is a fun guy to watch pitch.

Arizona Diamondbacks’ Chris Iannetta, bottom, is attended to by manager Torey Lovullo, top, after Iannetta was hit on the face with a pitch by Pittsburgh Pirates’ Johnny Barbato during the seventh inning of a baseball game Friday, May 12, 2017, in Phoenix.

Lovullo when asked following the game if the pitch that had hit Iannetta was intentional said that he stands by his thought that the pitch just got away from the Pittsburgh pitcher and was not intentional.

Williams retired the final 12 batters he faced after Ahmed homered and Jeff Mathis followed with a double to open the second inning.

OUR PREDICTION: The Dodgers have dropped 13 of Wood’s last 16 road starts, are 1-4 in his last five starts versus National League West opponents, and are 0-5 in his last five starts coming off four days of rest.

Saladino went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Avisail Garcia homered for Chicago.

“That’s not me out there”, he said.

Here’s hoping Iannetta gets better and back on the field soon.

Williams will face the Diamondbacks for the first time in his career. Only one batter has reached base for the Pirates on Thursday night.

But the Diamondbacks got those runs back and then some, with Lamb’s two-run single off reliever Josh Lindblom plus RBI singles for Chris Owings and Yasmany Tomas for an 11-3 lead.

“The slider was pretty good”, he said. “I forget the dryness in the air and forget how the ball feels like”.

Blue Jays 7, Mariners 2: Steve Pearce hit a three-run home run, Justin Smoak had a solo homer and finished with four RBIs, and host Toronto snapped Seattle’s win streak at four. He has reached base safely in 31 of his last 32 games at Chase Field, where he’s batting.454 this season, and has hit safely in 10 straight home games, going 17-for-41 (.415) with six doubles and three home runs.

Glasnow (1-2, 6.33 ERA) took the loss in a 6-2 defeat to the Milwaukee Brewers last Sunday. Jordy Mercer was walked intentionally to bring up Williams and second baseman Brandon Drury booted a routine grounder to allow the Pirates to go up 2-1.

“A swinging bat is a unsafe bat”, Hurdle said.
