The Tar Heels ended a streak of eight straight losses at Georgia Tech since their last win in 1997. The 2015 team has only been here one time, so that’s the way we looked at it, and they got the job done.
It was North Carolina’s first win in Atlanta since the 1997 season when Mack Brown led the Tar Heels to the No. 6 spot nationally in the final AP Poll.
Williams rushed 15 times for 148 yards and two touchdowns, and completed 13-of-24 for 134 yards.
And so he climbed into the stands and surrounded himself in adulation.
“[Williams] was a beast today”.
“He took a lot of criticism last week”, Fedora said. “Everybody questioned him on the outside”, Fedora said. “And he did what he can do”.
All he had to do was wait – and wait – for the ball to come down before strolling into the end zone. Redshirt senior quarterback Marquise Williams led the Tar Heels (4-1, 1-0 ACC) to scores on four of six second-half drives after starting the game with back-to-back punts.
Williams’ go-ahead touchdown catch came less than 4 minutes into the fourth quarter. They had never lost in Atlanta.
“No one was panicking”, he said. It was all business.
It was Williams’ third career touchdown catch, and each came from Davis.
“I’m like, ‘yes, ‘ ” Davis said, stretching out the word.
“I’m really disappointed”, Johnson said. “Because don’t nobody expect that … they should, though, right?”
North Carolina quarterback Marquise Williams has a high time after beating Georgia Tech at its place.
In the second half, though, the Tar Heels surrendered 51 yards rushing. The defensive strategy didn’t change, Schoettmer said.
“Right now we’re not good enough in any facet to overcome that”, Johnson said. “Next guy up, and you’ve got to play him. And that’s what they did”. His 37-yard touchdown catch off of a double-reverse pass from wide receiver. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets passing attack has averaged 104.5 yards per game (No. 122) compared to the North Carolina Tar Heels defence that ranks No. 14 give up through the air (140.0 yards per game on average). It was emotional for Williams, too, for other reasons.
“I’m sure that our players feel like I do”. It’s sad to say that, but that’s just true. I’m excited. I like the pace of a no-huddle offense. But their coaches had a markedly better day than those on the opposite sideline.

DEFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT: UNC’s defense has made a few clear improvements through the first four games, namely in playing physically and having defensive backs in better position to make tackles and pass breakups. “We kind of let it slip away from us”. UNC took care of the preseason division favorites in Georgia Tech, and it will have its annual shot at the new favorite – the rival Duke Blue Devils – next month at home.
