Wilshere: Arsenal want to show Tottenham who’s best

After picking up just two points from a possible nine Spurs now fear they could lose out on second spot to bitter rivals Arsenal. It was deserved and it kept Southampton ticking in their quest for Europa League qualification.

Kane is also motivated by the chance to finish the season as the Premier League’s top scorer – he is one ahead of Jamie Vardy – and the chance to take part in Euro 2016.

But after quarter of an hour Spurs made the breakthrough.

Spurs went under at home to Southampton despite taking the lead through a delightful solo goal by Son Heung-min.

The goal brought White Hart Lane into life. Assist from Tadic again. His low cross was slipped in for Davis, and his first-time finish deceived Lloris. Meanwhile Long struck over and substitute James Ward-Prowse wide as the visitors looked to seal the three points.

“We spoke about a special season last season, but then this season will be even more special”.

The first half was entertaining, and Tottenham could reflect on a number of opportunities that went begging. Playing Newcastle will be a tough game, especially if they have something to play for.

He said: “We knew our situation and then you need to be realistic about your possibilities”.

“We feel disappointed (after the result against Southampton), I think that our last game at home we want to win but we are disappointed”.

“We need to analyze the last few games, and how we need to improve our squad and different areas of the team”, he said.

“We are still in a great position and if we look back to the start of the season we all should be proud”.

The Argentine continued: “Sometimes you can deserve, but you end up with nothing”.

A brace from Steven Davis secured the win for Southampton. We want to finish as high up as we can, we are not going to focus on anything but ourselves.

It was Southampton who took the lead with just under 20 minutes remaining, though, as Davis exchanged passes with Tadic before sneaking a tame effort into the bottom corner through a crowd of bodies.

“It would be a really good feeling (to finish above Arsenal)”, Kane, the league’s leading scorer with 25 goals, told British media. “It hurts being at home and not finishing it off, but there is still one more game”.
