Wilson plays through injury, excels against Jets

The Jets left tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins from Fox Island, Gig Harbor High School and the University of Washington inactive. After Fitzpatrick’s six-interception debacle against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3, he came back with three more picks in Sunday’s 27-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Jets were without the services of wideout Eric Decker (labrum), and with Seattle bottling up running back Matt Forte (43 total yards), there weren’t many other options on offense to bother the Seahawks.

Wilson in Charge: Playing through ankle and knee injuries, Wilson played a sensational game for Seattle. It is just one of the keys of the game to watch for. That was an outlier and we’d love to have a game like that ourselves, but that is probably once in a career.

With the Jets trailing by seven early in the period, Richard Sherman picked off the Gang Green signal-caller on the type of play fans have become accustomed to during Fitzpatrick’s tenure. On the defense, NY is allowing 26.0 points and 355.7 yards per game against the opponents.

The San Francisco 49ers defense was supposed to be a team strength heading into this year but after shutting out the hapless Rams in the opening game they’ve conceded 83 points against the Panthers and the Seahawks.

You can’t blame this one entirely on Ryan Fitzpatrick. On Friday, Head Coach Pete Carroll announced that Russell Wilson, who suffered a sprained MCL last Sunday, was cleared to play in Week 4.

“He’s had a great return”, Carroll said.

Each Jets score came after Seattle momentarily appeared to have a drive-stopping turnover that after review allowed NY to keep the ball.

Brandon Marshall is also hampered by injuries, but he will suit up as the Jets desperately need him against the Seahawks secondary. Ifedi missed the first three games (ankle), but started at right guard after going through a full week of practice. The Jets will need all the help they can get from their current leading receiver. It seems odd that the Seahawks would let Wilson continue to play, even if he really wanted to, while injured early on in a very tough season.

However, as been the Jets offense’s Achilles’ heal all season, a promising drive stalled in the red zone when Fitzpatrick was sacked on second down. Christine Michael led in rushing with 106 yards and two touchdowns in 20 carries. He’s going to be out multiple weeks with a cracked fibula.
