Microsoft was counting on selling 50 million Windows phones a year when it came up with its 1 billion device goal, BBC reported, but it will likely sell a fraction of that.

Microsoft’s offer to upgrade to Windows 10 for free expires in less than two weeks after Friday, July 29. After that date, the upgrade will cost $119.

However, the company added that Windows 10 was off to the hottest start in history, with over 350 million monthly active devices.

Of course, Windows 10 is a success, by all metrics.

With the new Xbox Play Anywhere feature, Microsoft will let users play games that are bought on the Xbox on Windows 10 PCs.

Aside from taking over people’s screens to advertise Windows 10, the U.S. technology firm is now offering to perform a same-day upgrade on any Windows 10-compatible PC in its retail stores.

This mini-computer already runs Windows 10 IoT Core, a downsized version of Windows 10 for Internet of Things devices. The company claims that now over 350 million users around the globe run the latest OS.

If it now runs Windows 8 and meets the hardware requirements – and you haven’t done anything sneaky like bring it in without a hard drive or a battery – just drop it off by noon and they’ll upgrade it to Windows 10 by the end of the business day.

In the US alone there are more than 56 million small to mid-size businesses in critical sectors, such as healthcare, legal and financial services, that need strong security similar to what Microsoft’s large enterprise customers get through volume licensing agreements, he added.

But Microsoft chose to make that decision for me.

Additionally, Microsoft is updating its biometric security feature, called Windows Hello, so you can use your face or finger instead of passwords for logging into apps and websites.

Lastly, we believe users should really give Windows 10 a try now, as the company has put in a lot of effort by integrating new and improved features.
