The fire appears to have knocked out power to more than two dozen homes and businesses in Summit Valley, according to a Southern California Edison outage map.
Mr. Poole did not know exactly when the last major fire burned in the area, saying only that it had been “a while”.
The blaze broke out Sunday above the high-desert city of Hesperia. The blaze, which is buring near the Pilot Rock Conservation Camp, is being called the Pilot fire.

The flames got within 100 feet of one home off Highway 173. San Bernardino County fire officials said the Pilot Fire was burning north, as 843 personnel continued the fire fight.
