On the occasion of Republic Day, Bajaj Auto teased a new range of motorcycles, called the “V” range, to be unveiled on February 1.
Originally commissioned as the HMS Hercules for the British Royal Navy for participation in World War II, the carrier was bought by the Indian government in 1957 and inducted into our naval services in 1961. After serving the nation for nearly 4 decades, the INS Vikrant was decommissioned in 1997, and was preserved as a museum ship in Mumbai till 2012.
The model “V” motorcycles have been built from the metal of INS Vikrant.
“The new bike will therefore preserve a significant piece of Indian military history”, it said. Bajaj Auto purchased the Vikrant metal and processed it to be a part of its new brand. Only that they will be badged Bajaj V, get a special logo, and will be introduced on February 1. The company is estimated to have enough raw material to continue production for about 2 years post which, a more affordable and regular version of the motorcycle is likely to hit the market.
