Windows 10 Mobile preview 10166 goes to testers
Many have been interpreting the recent announcements as the death-knell for Windows Mobile, with Wired dubbing them “a letter of surrender”.

The layoff however is the second round of retrenchment that took place in Microsoft since Nadella took the helm in February 2014 on top of the 18,000 job cuts that Microsoft reportedly plan to execute globally as part of its restructuring plan.
That’s a awful tragedy for the people involved, and should not be dismissed lightly.
To be clear, Microsoft isn’t going to stop making smartphones – at least not anytime soon. Admittedly, the app selection is underwhelming compared to competitors, but it’s getting better, and the rest of the OS is actually pretty good. The new Start button is responsive so you can increase it in size to reflect how many apps you want to access quickly and easily.
It’s far too much, as Microsoft is no doubt painfully aware by this point.
Globally, many companies have Window PCs installed across their offices.
That reorganization aimed to drive engineering alignment against the company’s core ambitions: reinventing productivity and business processes; building the intelligent cloud platform; and creating more personal computing.
The Windows Apps Team explained that to deploy an app to a mobile device, you need to enable the device.
Thankfully, it appears that Microsoft has finally seen the error of its ways.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Microsoft is cutting 7,800 jobs and writing off $7.6 billion in connection with its purchase of Nokia’s phone business, as the giant software maker tries to narrow its focus and pull back from a series of ill-fated forays onto rival tech companies’ turf.
That doesn’t mean it’s equally close to release, though. Analysts have said the Nokia business was a drag on Microsoft’s profits. If these images prove accurate, it will be a significant step up in build quality for Microsoft’s phones, and one that may put them on a par with Android and iOS flagships.
While not every user will get Windows 10 on launch day, those who are eager to get the new OS – if they are existing Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users – can do so by simply registering on the Windows icon on their desktop.
Microsoft’s artificial intelligence (AI) search agent Cortana won’t be answering vocal questions from Irish people when Windows 10 launches on 29 July, but the feature is coming, Microsoft said during a preview of the forthcoming OS. Tom Warren at The Verge reported that the future of Microsoft’s mobile strategy will be less about phones, and March Hachman at PC World thinks that the only way out of the big Windows Phone mess is for Microsoft to follow Apple’s lead.
Windows 10 build 10166 is now available for download for fast ring users and just like the company said some weeks ago, it’s all about bug fixes and performance improvements. The upshot of this is that if you are within the Wi-Fi zone you can continue playing games from your Xbox on your PC.

This looks like a rare stumble for Nadella, but no one is flawless.
