Windows 10 Phone Update Delayed Until 2016

Unlike its higher end siblings, the Lumia 550 will not support Windows 10 Continuum feature as it does not meet the hardware requirements for the same.

Redmond has still not provided an official list of which Windows Phone devices will be getting the upgrade either which does not bode well.

Now we have a launch window for Windows 10 Mobile, are you planning to make the jump once the update is available on your devices? Likewise, standard Windows 10 owners can grab version 10586.36 on their way out of 2015. Those shelling out for a Lumia 950 or the 950XL are already running the new OS.

A new build of Windows 10 Mobile has been released for the users who signed up for the “Insider” program.

Microsoft has been trying to solve an issue that has long frustrated smart phone users by pushing updates directly to users. Microsoft made that upgrade available to Windows 7 and Windows 8 users with the free Windows 10 upgrade that launched in late July. As with the previous release, this Cumulative Update continues to use the minor version for differentiating between each version.

The new mobile OS has been created to offer more consistency with its PC counterpart, including better synchronization of content, as well as a new universal application platform that allows one app to run on multiple Windows 10 devices.

Cumulative updates like this won’t, in future, be accompanied by blog posts, rather the announcements will appear in the Insider Hub, and on Twitter.

I asked Microsoft recently when the company would start sharing more specifics about what’s in these updates and was told by a spokesperson that Microsoft had nothing more to share, regarding the timing or substance of this information.

So, there you have it. I doubt we’ll see too much material from the Windows team this year.
