A media transport bus has had two windows smashed after being attacked while travelling between venues at the Rio Olympic Games on Tuesday.

A bus carrying media personnel and volunteers between Olympic venues was attacked in Rio this evening, according to multiple media reports. Photos showed two shattered windows, with tiny shards of glass remaining in place.

On Monday (NZT Tuesday), a Rio Olympics media bus, driving above the speed limit, hit a speed bump injuring three reporters travelling inside it, with one being taken to hospital. The bus continued moving without making a stop, he said.

Another news outlet, Estadao, says it was gunfire from a low-calibre firearm, and two journalists were hit by glass shrapnel. “The police are investigating”, he said.

The bus was traveling from the northern venue cluster of Deodoro to the main Olympic Park in the western suburb of Barra da Tijuca.

When contacted by Omnisport, a Games spokesperson confirmed an investigation was under way to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A man was shot dead outside the Maracana ahead of the opening ceremony while a bullet was sacked through a media room at the equestrian centre on the opening weekend. Organizers said the intended target was probably a security camera on a blimp.
